A Land Use Bylaw controls the use and development of land and buildings within a municipality. In a Land Use Bylaw, a municipality is divided into a number of land use districts, within which are designated permitted and discretionary uses of land and buildings, or both. The Bylaw may also establish provisions, in general or for any specific district, that pertain to a variety of matters including the minimum and maximum lot areas.
Provisions regarding the building setbacks from property lines, floor areas of buildings, and location of fences are dealt with during the
Development Permit Process, rather than the subdivision process.
